A disciplinary tribunal will hear from fourteen personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority who were captured extorting money from drivers at various sites throughout the state.
In a statement made accessible to journalists on Sunday, the agency’s public relations officer, Adebayo Taofiq, revealed this.
The 14 male officials, who are listed in the statement, consist of three junior and 11 senior cadre members.
According to Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, the general manager of the agency, the cases against them have been looked at, and the next step is for them to appear before the panel.
He continued by saying that the agency would continue to punish lawbreaking officers harshly in order to get rid of the people damaging the agency’s reputation.
He also issued a warning to the populace to cease buying off LASTMA officials.
A portion of the statement read, “The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, disclosed that these affected officers whose cases have been investigated would be facing a government disciplinary committee known as the Personnel Management Board which would adjudicate their cases in accordance with the Public Service Rules.
“According to Mr. Oreagba, the 14 male officers—11 seniors and three juniors—were apprehended at various sites throughout the state extorting cash (bribes) from drivers.
“He said the agency would keep punishing officers and men harshly and severely in an effort to purge the agency of a few rotten apples ruining its reputation.
“We hereby call on residents, particularly the driving public, to support us by immediately reporting any errant officers at the nearest LASTMA offices or use any of the agency’s complaint hotlines with proof of evidence,” the statement continued.
