“18-Month Blackout: Seven Kwara Communities Suffer”

Residents of several communities in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State are facing prolonged power blackout, lasting over 18 months. The affected communities include Oke-Oyi, Agbeyangi, Oke-Ose, Panada, Badi, Adelu, and Oloro.

According to the Chairman of the Oke-Oyi Community Development Association, Alhaji Ahmed Seriki, these communities have been without electricity for the past 18 months, severely impacting commercial activities and causing economic hardship. Despite efforts to address the issue, including contributing money to buy cables for repairs, there has been no positive result.

The blackout has led to various challenges, including increased expenses for hospitals that need to power their generators, reduced economic activities, and concerns about security due to the darkness providing cover for criminals.

Residents have appealed to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and relevant authorities to address the power outage and restore electricity to the area. In response, the Corporate Affairs Manager of IBEDC stated that the company would investigate the nature of the faults causing the outage and work to restore power to the affected communities.
