The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that over 5.4 million voters are registered to participate in the upcoming governorship elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states on November 11.
INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, provided this information during a statement. He further elaborated on the voter registration figures for each state, with Bayelsa having 1,056,862 registered voters, Imo with 2,419,922, and Kogi with 1,932,654.
Soft copies of the complete voter register for each state will be made available to the participating political parties. A total of 16 political parties are sponsoring candidates in Bayelsa, 17 in Imo, and all 18 parties are participating in Kogi.
To enhance the use of technology for voter accreditation and result management, INEC has organized a mock accreditation of voters using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and uploading of polling unit results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal. This exercise will occur simultaneously in the three states on October 14, 2023, to ensure a seamless deployment of the systems during the actual election.
INEC has also accredited 119 domestic and eight foreign observers for the governorship elections scheduled for November 11, 2023.
