In Jigawa State, members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have detained two men for raping minors and giving one of them hepatitis B.
Umar Hasan, 25, of Kofar Fada Quarters, and Alhassan Hussaini, 24, of Unguwar Bayi Quarters, both from Auyo LGA, were detained on suspicion of rape and gross indecency in violation of Section 3 of the Jigawa State VAPP Law, according to a statement released by the Jigawa NSCDC on Tuesday.
He said that on Saturday, July 29, Umar was detained in response to a complaint made by the father of an eight-year-old girl who had been sexually assaulted.
The statement read, “Upon his arrest, he acknowledged to having enjoyed touching the little girl’s private area but denied having carnal knowledge of her. According to him, it occurred when he sent out the girl to get water for himself and, when she returned, persuaded her to follow him to his residence, where he entertained himself by playing with her.
However, the girl said Umar had three sexual encounters with her, in contrast to what he claimed. She claimed she had informed her parents of the incidents but was unaware of the subsequent actions.
Shehu added that the girl revealed that she was not the only victim of abuse, naming her companions, who were 8 and 9 years old, and that the inquiry into the matter resulted in the arrest of one Alhassan Hussaini.
When the girls were questioned, he said that one of them brought up Alhassan, who she claimed also used her sexually when she was asked by her older sister to deliver tofu (awara) to him.
He explained that both females had bruises and disturbed hymens, which were signs of sexual penetration as determined by the medical exams carried out at the Auyo General Hospital and the Sexual Assault and Referral Centre (SARC) in Dutse.
He also mentioned that one of them received medication for Hepatitis B after contracting it.
