26 undocumented migrants from Burkina Faso and Cameroon have been taken into custody by the Edo State Police Command.
The offenders were reportedly taken into custody in Afowa, Uzairue Etsako West LGA.
Reporters learned that the migrants were made up of one male and one female from Burkina Faso, and sixteen males and eight females from Cameroon.
Chidi Nwabuzor, a spokesman for the command, stated that the suspects were taken into custody on November 9 in response to reliable leads.
He stated that after receiving information that certain people had been gathered in a specific complex, police officers from Jattu Division attacked the area and took the suspects into custody.
“They could not effectively express themselves during interrogation in the English language, but what little they could do was identify their own countries,” he stated.
“After a preliminary examination, they admitted that they entered the country via the northern border and Cameroon, accompanied by a certain young man.
According to Chidi, they would be turned over to the Nigeria Immigration Service after being properly profiled by the criminal investigation department.
