Between August 7 and 17, 2023, the Nigerian military conducted operations resulting in significant achievements against criminal elements. The Defence Headquarters reported that during this period, a total of 28 terrorists were neutralized and 114 criminals were apprehended across the country.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, shared this information during a press briefing in Abuja. The detained criminals encompassed various categories, including 92 terrorists, six gunrunners, three kidnappers, six collaborators, and seven suspected oil thieves. Additionally, the military successfully rescued 82 kidnapped civilians.
Maj. Gen. Buba underscored the commitment of the armed forces to safeguarding the nation’s security and highlighted their relentless efforts to protect the nation despite the inherent risks.
During these operations, a wide array of weapons and ammunition were recovered, including 22 AK47 rifles, one PKT gun, six pump action guns, four Dane guns, one fabricated rifle, one Galil Ace rifle, and numerous rounds of ammunition. Other seized items included hand grenades, magazines, explosives, and radios.
The military’s endeavors extended to various regions, with the Niger Delta area also witnessing the destruction of illegal refining sites, storage facilities, boats, and equipment associated with oil theft and illegal activities. Notably, significant amounts of stolen crude oil and illegally refined petroleum products were recovered.
These achievements underscore the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian military to combat criminal elements and ensure the safety and security of the nation’s citizens. The multi-faceted operations demonstrate a comprehensive approach to addressing a range of criminal activities and threats across different regions.
