The Imo Police Command discovered three decomposing, unidentified remains suspected of being kidnapping victims in a forest near the Ihiagwa and Avu towns in the state’s Owerri West Local Government Area.
ASP Henry Okoye, the Imo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the discovery to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Owerri.
According to NAN, a viral video on social media revealed around four decomposing remains discovered in the forest by Imo hunters and forest guards.
According to Okoye, Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma has authorized a tactical squad to extensively investigate the area’s bushes and forests for further kidnappers and dead corpses.
“Operators from the Imo State Police Command Special Tactical Squad, commanded by Commissioner of Police Mr Aboki Danjuma, invaded a forest near the Avu-Ihiagwa settlements, suspected of being kidnappers’ hideouts.
“In the process, five suspected kidnappers were apprehended, and three rotting unidentified remains suspected of being kidnapping victims were discovered. The command aims to conduct more DNA confirming testing to determine the identity of the victims,” Okoye said.
According to him, an intensive search of the forest and other nooks and crannies of the state is underway to eradicate all types of crime and criminality.
He asked the people to disclose any sensitive information that could help police apprehend criminals while also securing and safeguarding Imo state.
