Late Sunday night, a devastating crash at Mandilas Bus Stop, Iyana Isolo, off the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, resulted in the deaths of two individuals. A fast-moving Mercedes Benz SUV carrying two occupants collided with a stationary truck and burst into flames, leaving both occupants fatally injured.
Eyewitness Abdulfatai Wasiu reported that the SUV was speeding excessively before it struck the truck. The impact was so severe that the vehicle’s engine ignited immediately, engulfing the SUV in flames and burning both occupants beyond recognition.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), confirmed the incident, noting that the collision occurred at 11:38 pm. Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding played a significant role in the accident.
Emergency response teams, including the Fire unit, Lagos State Rescue and Fire Service, State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Nigeria Police, and Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), swiftly arrived at the scene. They extinguished the fire, secured the area, and removed the victims. Normal traffic flow was restored by 9 a.m. Monday, and the remains of the deceased were transferred to the morgue while the wreckage was towed to the LASTMA Yard.
