40,000 Security Personnel Deployed for Kogi Governorship Election

Kogi State is set to deploy a significant security presence for its upcoming governorship election on November 11, with no fewer than 40,000 security personnel being mobilized, according to the Commissioner of Police, Bernard Onuoha.

In an exclusive interview at the state command headquarters in Lokoja, the CP stated that while he could not provide the exact figure, the security presence would not be less than 40,000 due to the off-season nature of the election and the historically volatile nature of Kogi State elections.

He expressed concern about the potential for violence during the election and noted that the authorities are actively working to prevent any such threats from materializing. Specific flashpoint areas have already been identified, including Olamaboro, Dekina, Ejule in Kogi East, and Adavi, Obehira, Obangede, and other areas in Kogi Central.

Efforts are being made to ensure a peaceful election, and the CP mentioned that he had met with the Attah of Igala to discuss the need for civility before, during, and after the election.

The deployment of such a significant number of security personnel underscores the importance of maintaining law and order during the electoral process in Kogi State. It reflects the commitment to ensuring that the election is conducted peacefully and without incidents of violence.
