In the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, a 49-year-old woman simply known as Mrs. Ajayi was allegedly attacked and hacked with a machete by some as-yet-unidentified thieves on Monday near the Adisa Bridge on the Ibadan/Oyo New Expressway.
Ajayi described her ordeal while lying on a hospital bed at the Wabilahi Taofeek Maternity Clinic in Isale Awero, Moniya. She claimed that around 6:30 p.m., after getting off a commercial vehicle she had boarded at Ebedi nearby that had developed a fault, she was attacked by two young men riding a motorcycle.
The first was riding the bike, and the second was standing extremely near to me and requesting that I bring the entire sum of money with me. It wasn’t until he pulled out cutlasses and cut me with a machete that I realized they were robbers.
“I just stopped by the market to buy some supplies for my clients. They gathered every piece. He was instructed to kill me by the person riding the motorcycle if I refused to cooperate. He pulled out the cutlass and attacked me before I could even speak.
I work as a pharmacist. My bag’s contents, including all of the drugs inside and other valuables, were forcibly seized.
When reporters visited the hospital, the doctor who was on call there claimed that upon inspecting the victim’s injuries, it was clear that the burglars intended to murder her.
As of the time this report was produced, Adewale Osifeso, the state police public relations officer, was unavailable for comment. He had not returned calls or messages left on his mobile phone.
