Following an attack by farmers in the Paikonkore settlement of the Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT, six herders were hurt on Sunday.
According to reports, the event happened at around 5:00 PM in a grazing reserve a short distance from Gwagwalada town.
Six injured herders were discovered in a clinic by our correspondent who visited the town yesterday.
One of the victims, Yusuf Lawan, mentioned that he was being attacked by some locals over the claim of agricultural encroachment as he was leading his cattle out of the grazing reserve and toward his home in Unguwan Basa.
He said “They insisted that i return and observe how one of my cows had consumed some crops before leaving the grazing range, he added. I insisted that they tell me about the loss because, if I followed them back, no one would be left to take care of my cattle.
However, one of them refused my request, pulled me back into the grazing area, and then struck me in the head with a machete. Before they freed me, another man struck me in the hand.
He added that he was able to return to his herd and meet several of his brothers there to tell them what had happened.
