The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2023 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) conducted for pupils seeking admission into Federal Government Colleges (FGCs), commonly known as unity schools.

During a press conference in Abuja, David Adejoh, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, announced that 69,829 pupils took the examination out of the 72,865 registered, with 3,036 pupils absent. Lagos State recorded the highest number of registrations (18,644), while Taraba State had the lowest (102).

Gender parity was observed with 38,801 female registrants and 34,064 male registrants, showcasing progress in bridging the gap. The highest score achieved by 76 pupils was 203, while the lowest score of 01 was attained by six pupils.

Adejoh reiterated the admission selection criteria for Federal Unity Colleges, which are as follows: 60% merit, 30% equality of state, and 10% exigency. He assured that the Federal Ministry of Education would ensure timely completion of all admission processes in accordance with these criteria.

He expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the success of the examination, including NECO management and staff, examination monitors, markers, and the media. He commended the smooth conduct of the examination, which showcased NECO’s continuous improvement in delivering its assessments.

Adejoh extended appreciation to the Zamfara State governor for the significant increase in registrations, and urged Adamawa, Bayelsa, and Kebbi to follow suit by registering more pupils for the NCEE. He also acknowledged the governor’s efforts to settle debts owed to NECO.

Overall, the release of the NCEE results signifies progress in the education sector and emphasizes the commitment to a fair and transparent admission process.
