Renowned Nigerian actor and activist, Yomi Fabiyi, has addressed the comments made by actress Jaiye Kuti regarding veteran actors seeking financial assistance on social media.
Jaiye Kuti expressed her disapproval of the recent trend where older actors in the Yoruba movie industry seek car gifts and financial support online. She suggested that these actors should take responsibility for their financial situations, emphasizing the importance of preparing for the future.
In response, Yomi Fabiyi took to Instagram to share his perspective. He explained that many of the veteran actors seeking support had been victims of exploitation and piracy in the past. He emphasized that their decisions should not be a concern to others.
Fabiyi wrote, “If anybody needs help and indeed comes public with his or her brand, name, and face only, I don’t see why it should bother anyone. If you cannot find the means to recover all these veterans’ losses via piracy and exploitation by capitalists, then let them breathe. We, the new millennium actors, are a little luckier, but not better. We must learn to respect people’s decisions, choices, and actions. All man for himself. Comparison is proof of nothing.”
He further expressed that it is arrogant and delusional to try to discredit someone based on their decisions or actions, as long as they are within their legal rights. Fabiyi concluded by stating his dislike for pretense, arrogance, and fake lives.
