Nigerian Army Intercepts Suspected International Drug Syndicate Smuggling Cannabis Sativa

In a successful operation, troops from the 192 Battalion Nigerian Army, operating in the 81 Division, have intercepted a suspected international drug syndicate smuggling a large quantity of Cannabis Sativa. The incident took place on the Ajilete Road in the Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops conducted a thorough stop and search operation, resulting in the impounding of a truck without registration plates. The truck was found to be loaded with 397 wraps of a substance suspected to be marijuana. Further investigations revealed that the illegal drugs were transported from Ghana through Benin Republic, en route to Sango Otta.

The suspects involved in this illicit operation have been identified as Mr. Matthew Edegbe, a Benin Republic national, and Mr. Joshua Dansu of Idiroko. They are currently assisting in ongoing investigations. Items recovered from the suspects include the concealed truck’s registration number (T 1826 LA Lagos), mobile phones, a Benin Republic National Identification card, a driver’s license, and a sum of Seven Thousand Naira.

The suspects, along with the vehicle and exhibits, have been taken into custody and will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Lagos State Command.

This successful interception comes shortly after the Battalion intercepted a truck carrying over 20,000 cartridges of ammunition destined for Anambra state.

The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, commended the troops for their dedication and vigilance in combatting criminal activities. He urged them to continue their efforts in purging the country of criminal elements.
