Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against taking the 2027 presidential election for granted, saying political endorsements alone cannot determine a leader’s future. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain made the remarks in a post on his 𝕏 handle, where he referenced the late former military Head of State, General Sani Abacha, to stress that there is always a “God factor” in human affairs.

According to Melaye, Abacha enjoyed overwhelming political support before his death in 1998, with all five registered political parties at the time reportedly endorsing him as their preferred presidential candidate. He noted that despite appearing certain to become a civilian president, Abacha’s ambition never materialised, arguing that divine intervention ultimately determines human affairs. Melaye urged Tinubu not to ignore this reality as political activities ahead of the 2027 general election continue to gather momentum.

The former senator further stated that no political calculation can override God’s will, adding that when “God calls, there is no network failure.” He concluded his message by warning the President to remain mindful of the uncertainty of political ambition. As of the time of filing this report, neither President Tinubu nor the Presidency had reacted to Melaye’s remarks.
