The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning to Nigerians regarding the sale of an unsafe mayonnaise brand named Whippy. The alert was prompted by a consumer complaint received by NAFDAC’s post-marketing surveillance unit in Ilorin, Kwara state.
Upon investigation, the product was traced back to its local source, SNF FOODS Limited, in Onitsha, Anambra. Subsequently, random samples from various batches of the product were taken for laboratory analysis.
The agency revealed that the laboratory analysis showed unsatisfactory outcomes, with the product found to have become rancid and displaying a different color from the original mayonnaise.
In response, NAFDAC has directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to conduct surveillance and recall the implicated batches of the unwholesome Whippy Real Mayonnaise. Distributors, retailers, and consumers are urged to exercise caution and avoid consumption, sale, or distribution of the affected batches.
Those in possession of the identified Whippy Real Mayonnaise batches are advised to submit their stock to the nearest NAFDAC office. Any adverse reactions experienced after consuming this product should be reported to a qualified healthcare professional.
The public is encouraged to report any suspicions of the distribution and sale of unwholesome packaged food products to the nearest NAFDAC office or through the provided contact details.
