The global union of professional footballers, FIFPRO, has stepped in to support Nigeria’s Super Falcons in their ongoing disagreement with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over unresolved bonus payments, camp allowances, and expenses, some dating back to 2021.
In response to the team’s elimination from the FIFA Women’s World Cup, FIFPRO has pledged to assist the Super Falcons in upholding their contractual rights and ensuring the settlement of outstanding payments by the NFF.
This development follows the Super Falcons’ exit from the Round of 16 in the current FIFA Women’s World Cup being held in Australia and New Zealand.
FIFA secretary-general Fatma Samoura recently acknowledged issues with unpaid allowances involving the Nigerian women’s football team, prompting a shift in their player remuneration policy to ensure direct payment to players without third-party involvement.
FIFPRO’s statement emphasizes the players’ commitment to their performance during the tournament and their determination to hold the Nigeria Football Federation accountable for fulfilling their commitments. The organization will continue working with the players to secure their rightful payments and contractual obligations.
