A 44-year-old lady who is accused of using her 10-year-old niece as a drug courier has been detained by police in Lagos State.
The suspect was apprehended last Wednesday when her niece was spotted wandering the streets and taken to the Pen Cinema Police Division in Agege, the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed to reporters on Tuesday.
According to Hundeyin, the DPO thereafter ordered the child to take a bath while the police searched for her parents.
He stated that while the child was attempting to bathe, police found a substance believed to contain Colorado that had been smuggled into her underwear.
He continued, “The revelation triggered more inquiries, which revealed that this has been occurring for a considerable amount of time. As a result, we had to expand the inquiry to include her home. We were then able to transport her guardian, who was the suspect, to the police station.
“She didn’t dispute it. She said that in order to get through police checks, she had used this method to courier drugs from her house to the store where she sells them.
