Former Emir of Kano, Mohammad Sanusi, held a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday. The purpose of the meeting was to brief President Tinubu about Sanusi’s discussions with the leaders of the military junta that orchestrated the coup in Niger.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Sanusi explained that he visited the Presidential Villa to provide President Tinubu with details of his interactions with the junta leaders in Niger. He emphasized the importance of public diplomacy and involving all parties to find a solution that benefits Africa, Niger, and Nigeria, as well as humanity at large.
When asked about reports suggesting that he took the initiative on his own rather than as part of a government delegation, Sanusi clarified that while government officials were aware of his trip, it was his personal initiative to engage in the discussions. He stated that as a leader, it’s his duty to contribute to resolving such matters.
Sanusi also mentioned that he was warmly received by the military junta leaders in Niger during his visit.
