“Obi Denies Sponsoring Rufai Oseni’s Father’s Burial”

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in Nigeria, has strongly denied claims that he financed the burial of the father of Nigerian journalist and television host Rufai Oseni. The allegation was made by Reno Omokri, the Special Assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan, who accused Obi of funding the funeral and suggested a bias on Oseni’s part in favor of Obi due to this alleged financial support.

Obi took to his X account to respond to the allegation, stating that it is a “categorical lie” and that he has never financially induced any journalist to speak or write in his favor. He explained that he attends events and occasions when invited, including birthdays and funerals, but he does not provide financial inducements to journalists for positive coverage.

Obi called for a focus on addressing the challenges facing Nigeria, emphasizing the need to uplift people from poverty and address the country’s pressing issues. He expressed his desire for the country to be rescued from its current difficulties.

This incident highlights the role of social media in disseminating information, opinions, and allegations, as well as the potential impact of false claims on individuals’ reputations and public perceptions.
