A man named Adejumo has been arrested for impersonating a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) official and attempting to tow a vehicle in Lagos. The incident, which occurred in the Somolu area, was captured in a circulating video on social media.
In the video, a woman, presumably the owner of the towed vehicle, expressed shock that her car was being towed by a van with a LASTMA sticker. She revealed that the van driver abandoned the scene after residents became suspicious and raised an alarm.
LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, issued a statement confirming that the van driver, Adejumo, was not an official LASTMA employee. Adejumo had been arrested and was under investigation for impersonation. It was discovered that he used a fake identity card and a counterfeit LASTMA tow franchisee sticker.
Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, the General Manager of LASTMA, cautioned the public to remain vigilant against individuals attempting to tarnish the agency’s reputation. The incident serves as a reminder to be cautious of fraudulent activities involving public institutions.
