“Over 100 Gay Individuals Arrested by Police in Delta Region”

The Delta State Police Command recently apprehended more than 100 individuals involved in a gay wedding event at a hotel in Delta state. The police shared this information through their official social media account and mentioned plans to publicly present the detainees.

This incident follows a trend of arrests related to homosexual activities since the enactment of the anti-gay law in 2014. Individuals suspected of being homosexuals have been detained and displayed by law enforcement in various instances. In December 2020, the Lagos State Police Command arrested ten people believed to be engaging in homosexual activities in an Okota area brothel. Similarly, in earlier cases, 57 men were paraded for alleged homosexual activities at the Kelly Ann hotel in Egbeda in 2018, and eight individuals were apprehended for suspected gay activities at an Isolo hotel in January 2022.

Under the 2014 anti-gay law, engaging in same-sex relations can result in a 14-year prison sentence upon conviction.
