The Police Commissioner of Kwara State, Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi, has issued a wanted notice for Salam Ayodeji. Ayodeji is accused of intimidating practitioners of Isese, a traditional African religion, in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The incident, which gained attention after a video circulated online, involved Ayodeji and his associates confronting a female Isese adherent in her shop. Ayodeji demanded that she leave the town within eight days or face consequences. He claimed authority with the alleged support of the police commissioner.
During a meeting with Ayodeji’s family, Commissioner Adelesi urged them to produce the suspect by Wednesday. Ayodeji is being sought for charges of terrorism and defamation against the police. The commissioner also criticized the suspect’s family for what she perceived as inadequate upbringing.
Adelesi expressed frustration over the incident, questioning the basis for targeting Isese practitioners. She also admonished the Alaran family, who accommodated the Isese adherents that were evicted following Ayodeji’s threats.
Ayodeji’s family stated that they had been unable to locate him, as his phone had been unreachable for several days. Tajudeen, the husband of the threatened Isese practitioner, reported that Ayodeji’s family had asked for forgiveness, and he had granted it.
