In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through Ogun State, a 21-year-old woman named Sukura Owodunni was allegedly set on fire during a deliverance session by Pastor Taiwo Odebiyi. The unfortunate incident occurred at the Cherubim and Seraphim Maberu Parish in Offin, Sagamu.
Reportedly, on August 17, 2023, the victim visited the church in response to the pastor’s invitation for a special prayer session. During the session, Pastor Odebiyi instructed Owodunni to procure Amazing Grace perfume, local eggs, and a candle.
As the prayer progressed, the pastor poured perfume on the young lady’s body and lit the candle. Tragically, the lit candle caused Owodunni’s body to catch fire, resulting in severe burns on her chest, shoulder, and legs.
Prompt action was taken, with the Divisional Police Officer in Adigbe, CSP Abdulfattah Ogunsanya, and his team swiftly arresting the pastor. The victim was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident and informed that an investigation was underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding the case. The victim’s medical bills have been a concern, as she was reportedly left to fend for herself after the incident.
The tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of ensuring safety and ethical practices, particularly in spiritual and religious settings.
