Tinubu Appoints 32-Year-Old Halilu as NASENI CEO

On Friday, President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria sacked the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Dr. Bashir Gwandu, and appointed Khalil Suleiman Halilu as his replacement.

Khalil Suleiman Halilu is expected to serve for an initial term of five years, and his appointment takes immediate effect.

Halilu has a background in business administration and international business, having obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom in 2009, followed by a Master’s degree in International Business from the same institution.

He has previous experience working at Gongoni Company Limited, a company specializing in the production and distribution of insecticides, pesticides, air fresheners, detergents, cosmetics, and other household products.

Halilu is also known for founding the Center for Civic, Welfare, and Community Development, a non-governmental organization focused on making contributions to social sectors such as health, education, the environment, and climate change. Additionally, he established “The CANs,” described as West Africa’s first eco-friendly tech hub.

His appointment to lead NASENI brings an individual with a background in business and technology to this important national role.
