The Lagos State Government has issued a warning to residents ahead of the commencement of full commercial operations on the Blue Rail line, scheduled to begin on Monday. The Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, conveyed the message through his official social media handle, urging citizens to avoid crossing the electrified rail track and use the provided overhead bridges instead.
The warning comes as a safety precaution, as crossing electrified rail lines poses significant risks to individuals. The government has invested in constructing overhead bridges to ensure the safety of pedestrians and commuters.
The first phase of the Blue Rail line, which runs from Marina to Mile 2, includes five stations: Marina, National Theatre, Iganmu, Alaba, and Orile.
In a video shared by the Chief Press Secretary, the General Manager of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, Abimbola Akinajo, emphasized the importance of adhering to safety regulations related to the Blue Rail line. She stressed the electrified nature of the rail system and urged residents to use designated pedestrian crossings and overhead bridges.
The government has also taken measures to secure the rail alignment by installing fences to deter individuals from attempting to cross the tracks. Akinajo reiterated the government’s commitment to safety and the accessibility of the rail system, including provisions for people with physical challenges.
As the Blue Rail line begins its commercial operations, the government’s emphasis on safety measures aims to protect the well-being of commuters and pedestrians while promoting the efficiency and functionality of the rail transport system in Lagos State.
