The Nigeria Police Academy has confirmed the death of a 100-level police cadet, Sulaiman Jika, at its campus in Wudil, Kano State. The cadet passed away after being admitted to the academy’s clinic due to an ailment.
The academy expressed deep sadness over the cadet’s passing and extended its condolences to his family and loved ones. The cadet had sought medical attention at the academy clinic on August 29, 2023, and was discharged after receiving treatment. However, he was readmitted on September 2, 2023, and, despite medical care, passed away.
Some cadets had accused the academy’s commandant of mismanagement of feeding allowances and poor living conditions, alleging that it contributed to the cadet’s death. There were also complaints about inadequate medical facilities and a lack of access to proper healthcare.
The incident has raised concerns about the conditions and welfare of cadets at the Nigeria Police Academy, as well as allegations of financial mismanagement. The academy’s management has not responded to these allegations in its official statement.
The situation highlights the need for proper oversight and reforms in training institutions to ensure the welfare and well-being of cadets and students.
