The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the successful rescue of two kidnapped victims in a daring operation carried out in the Oghara-Ugbenu forest, located in Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state. The victims, who were initially abducted by unidentified hoodlums along the Oghara-Ugbenu link road, have now been safely reunited with their families.
According to the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, the rescue operation was launched based on credible and technically generated information. Police operatives combed the forest tirelessly, ultimately forcing the hoodlums to abandon the victims and flee the scene.
DSP Edafe disclosed, “The operatives rescued the two kidnapped victims unhurt and have since reunited with their families.” Additionally, several items were recovered from the scene, including four live cartridges, one Tecno Spark phone, one ATM card, and three SIM cards from different telecommunication networks.
Although the victims have been safely rescued, the police are actively pursuing the apprehension of the fleeing suspects. Their capture remains a top priority for law enforcement in the state.
In a separate incident, the police arrested a 23-year-old suspected vandal, Michael Danjuma, in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area. Danjuma, who hails from Plateau State, was found in possession of a Beretta pistol, along with one magazine, vandalized cables, two ATM cards, and one pair of steel scissors. The case is currently under investigation.
Furthermore, the police apprehended a suspected armed robber, Chimuanya Francis Onwusonye (30), in the Isieke area of Asaba. Onwusonye was found in possession of a Beretta pistol with four rounds of live ammunition. Like the previous case, this matter is also under investigation.
In response to these accomplishments, Commissioner of Police CP Wale Abass reaffirmed the commitment of the command to maintaining law and order. He emphasized the importance of public vigilance, especially during the ember months when crime tends to increase. CP Abass encouraged citizens to provide useful information to the police and assured the public of the command’s proactive efforts to protect lives and property in the state. Security, he stressed, is a shared responsibility.
These successful operations by the Delta State Police demonstrate their dedication to ensuring the safety and security of the state’s residents.
