In a daring operation, the Anambra State Police Command successfully rescued a kidnap victim following an exchange of gunfire with the fleeing abductors. The incident occurred in Umuota Village, Obosi, located in the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The victim, known as Abuchi and hailing from Orumba South LGA of Anambra State, had been kidnapped on a Saturday evening. Thankfully, residents in the area alerted the police, leading to the successful rescue operation.
According to Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the state police, the incident unfolded during an anti-crime patrol in Obosi around 7:30 pm on that Saturday. The residents informed the police about the kidnapping, prompting a swift response.
During the confrontation with the abductors, one of the criminals was shot and apprehended, while others managed to escape, some with gunshot wounds. Among the items recovered from the gang were a double-barreled pistol, two live cartridges, and one expended cartridge.
The captured suspect identified himself as Nwasu Ikenna, a resident of Obosi, and he provided information about his accomplices who had escaped: Ebuka, also known as Big; Chinedu Emmanuel; and Chukwu Ojoto. Regrettably, the captured criminal identified Ebuka as the leader of the gang, but he died on the way to the hospital for medical treatment.
