Wesley University Cuts Tuition by 50% Amid Subsidy Changes

Wesley University, a faith-based institution located in Ondo town, Ondo State, has announced a 50% reduction in tuition fees for select programs in various departments. The decision to reduce fees is aimed at making education more accessible and contributing to national development.

The affected programs fall under the departments of Natural and Applied Sciences, Education, Agriculture, Finance and Investment, and Economics. These programs are considered significant for national development but have faced low enrollment due to high tuition fees and perceived abstract or ambiguous content.

The Vice Chancellor of Wesley University, Prof. Samuel Obeka, emphasized that this reduction in fees is part of the university’s commitment to providing opportunities for academic and professional development for all Nigerians. The university offers 44 accredited academic programs across nine colleges, covering various fields, including law, arts, education, agriculture, health sciences, and more.

In addition to this initiative, Prof. Obeka also commented on the importance of addressing broader economic challenges in Nigeria, such as fuel subsidy removal and the proposed palliative measures, rather than increasing tuition fees for government-owned universities. Wesley University’s decision to reduce fees reflects its dedication to inclusive education and its role in advancing the nation’s development.
