About Now : UNILAG Reduces Fees Following VC and NANS Meeting

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced a reduction in its fees following a meeting with representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). The university held a meeting with NANS executives and faculty members on Thursday.

During the meeting, NANS representatives highlighted the demands put forth by the students, which included the reversal of obligatory fees, hostel fees, and the reinstatement of the Students’ Union Government at UNILAG.

As a result of the discussions, several fee adjustments were made:

Utility Charges for all categories of students were reduced to N15,000 from N20,000.
Obligatory fees for new undergraduate students were reviewed, with fees for Courses without Lab/Studio reduced from N126,325 to N116,325 and fees for Courses with Lab/Studio reduced from N176,325 to N166,325.

Obligatory fees for returning undergraduate students were also revised, with fees for Courses without Lab/Studio reduced from N100,750 to N80,750, fees for Courses with Lab/Studio reduced from N140,250 to N120,250, and fees for Medical/Pharmacy students and students in Health Professions reduced from N190,250 to N170,250.

The Convocation Fee for all final year students was reduced to N27,000 from N30,000.
Hostel fees underwent changes as well, with fees for undergraduate hostels in Akoka and Yaba campuses reduced to N43,000 from N90,000, and fees for hostels in Idi-Araba campus reduced to N65,000 from N120,000. Additionally, the fees for Sodeinde Hall were reduced to N135,000 from N250,000.

These fee adjustments were made to address the concerns of students who had protested against the initially raised tuition fees announced by the university in July. The reduction aims to ensure that students have continued access to quality education at UNILAG.
