Five die, 12 injured in Lagos-Ibadan road crash

Tragedy struck on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway as five individuals lost their lives, while 12 others sustained injuries in a multiple-vehicle accident. The incident occurred near the Foursquare camp in Ajebo when a DAF truck lost control due to a burst tire and occupied the road. Subsequently, a Toyota bus and a Mitsubishi pickup collided with the truck.

According to Florence Okpe, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the injured victims were promptly taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for medical attention, while the deceased were deposited at FOS Morgue, Ipara Remo.

The accident involved a total of 21 people, all adult males, and was attributed to factors such as speed, tire burst, and the loss of control by the truck driver.

FRSC Ogun State Sector Commander Anthony Uga advised motorists to avoid sub-standard tires and practice safe speed limits, especially during the rainy season. He also expressed sympathy for the victims’ families and urged them to contact the FRSC Ogunmakin unit for further information about the accident.

Road safety remains a critical concern, and drivers are urged to exercise caution, maintain their vehicles properly, and adhere to traffic rules to prevent accidents and loss of lives.
