Osun: Gunmen kill Admission seeker, burn Osun palace

On Sunday, tragedy struck the Okanla neighborhood in the Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun State when a group of armed men raided the palace of Olokanla of Okanla, assassinated Ibrahim Qudus, a candidate for admission, and then set the royal residence on fire.

Jimoh Qadri, the victim’s uncle, told reporters that the attackers were headed by a man who went by the name of Naim and was the only one of the group to not cover his face while attacking.

Qadri, who was unable to provide an explanation for the attack, claimed that the attackers first attacked his home and encountered his absence before moving on to the residence of his late father, Oba Jimoh Adigun, the Olokanla of Okanla, which he used as his palace before passing away.

He stated, “I wasn’t home, but my wife called to tell me that about 20 gunmen had invaded my house in the Okanla neighborhood early on Sunday morning. She claimed that while they were all wearing masks, my wife was able to see one of them carrying Naim since he had his face exposed. The attackers looked around the house in search of me.When they failed to locate me, they set fire to the building before moving on to my family’s home, which my late father, Olokanla of Okanla, had used as his palace. There they encountered Qudus, my eldest brother’s son, who had been living in Ibadan until lately when he returned home to apply for a university admissions position after taking the UTME.

When contacted, Yemisi Opalola, a spokesman for the Osun Police Command, said that Kehinde Longe, the commissioner of police, had visited the crime scene and added that additional officers had been sent to the area.
“Someone was burned by a car in the Okanla neighborhood, which is near Ifon and Ilobu. To prevent additional law and order collapse, we have sent our personnel to the area. The Police Commissioner has visited the location, according to Opalola.
