A Denver doctor who is accused of drugging, assaulting, and raping more than a dozen women he met on the dating apps Hinge and Tinder will have to go to trial on 51 felony counts.
Dr. Stephen Matthews, 35, allegedly met women for dates in the middle of the morning, invited them back to his house to play Jenga while sipping mimosas in his hot tub, and then attacked them when they passed out.
In affidavits, a total of 13 accusers described unsettlingly identical behavior that was inflicted upon them, leading to the doctor’s arrest on a $5 million bond.

Matthews’ attorney contended there was no forensic evidence the women were drugged at the two-day preliminary trial this week.
Additionally, the lawyer claimed there was no evidence the women were physically helpless during their sexual encounters with the doctor.
Judge Eric Johnson, however, rejected the allegations and said that Matthews must face trial because of the striking similarities in all of the cases. There is “substantial evidence” that anything was administered, according to Johnson.

According to reports, the alleged rapist shook his head as if to indicate “no” when the judge gave out the specifics of each case.
