Favour Williams, a 12-year-old JSS 2 student at Junior Secondary School, Kurmin Tagwaye II, has been discovered dead in Akwanga, the administrative center of Akwanga Local Government Area in Nasarawa State.
According to reports, Favour apparently hanged herself last Monday on the farm in Kurmin Twagwaye II along the Wamba road.
However, a source told reporters that Mr. Williams Ma’aji, the deceased woman’s father, was suspected of defiling her and leaking the act.
Thomas Vincent, the Kurmin Tagwaye youth leader, who corroborated the occurrence, however, said that “only God knows what led to the untimely death of the innocent girl who was seen around the village that fateful day she died.”
“The father told us,” he said, “that late Favour was working on the other side of the farm with the mother and after a while, he saw her coming and she greeted him and proceeded to another side of the farm, that she wanted to go and eat groundnuts.”
“The father went on to explain that after greeting each other and going their separate ways, he assumed his daughter had returned to the mother via a different route. Surprisingly, however, he discovered his daughter had hanged herself on the way home from the farm, and before he could act to cut the rope she had used to do so, she had already passed away.
“We visited the scene of the tragedy and saw the place where she is said to have hanged herself. The local adolescents were enraged and desired to lynch her parents. We had to step in and call the police, who arrived and took them into custody. The father is still in custody, but the mother was questioned and cleared.
According to information obtained, the deceased body was brought to the General Hospital Akwanga for an autopsy and cross examination. It was determined there were no signs of injuries on her body. She was later buried.
