Only 20 hours after their kidnapping, the Ondo State Police Command said on Saturday that eight out of the 25 victims who were taken on Friday had been freed.
On Friday night, several thugs in the state who were thought to be gunmen abducted 25 members of the Christ Apostolic Church in Oke Igan, Akure, Ondo State.
On the Benin-Akure Expressway, in the Ifon region in the state’s Ose Local Government region, the victims—reportedly choristers of the church—were allegedly attacked and abducted.
They claimed to be on their way to Ifon for a funeral ceremony when the thugs ambushed them and took them off into the wilderness.
The state police public relations officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, commented on the development and verified that eight of the victims had been rescued, with work still being done to save the other victims.
