Experienced Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, recently discussed how she faced rejection for prominent movie roles due to what others perceived as her lack of physical attractiveness.
During a conversation on a recent episode of “Toke Moments,” hosted by TV personality Toke Makinwa, Funke Akindele candidly shared her experiences. She revealed that her facial appearance had led to her being turned down for roles, even in Yoruba films. Instead, she was often offered minor roles, causing her emotional distress.
Akindele recalled moments when people would tell her, “You are not fine. You don’t have ass. You don’t have boobs. You will not be in this film.” These rejections would often reduce her to tears, and she would seek refuge in the bathroom to privately express her emotions.
She also highlighted the support she received from her colleague, Iyabo Ojo, who stood by her during conflicts with filmmakers who dismissed her based on her physical appearance.
