Babatunde Afolayan, 42, was detained by members of the Lagos State Police Command on Monday after they discovered that he had reportedly defiled his daughter for three years.
The man, a resident of the Ikorodu neighborhood of Lagos, is said to have been defiling the girl since she was 10 years old.
It was discovered that the man’s problems began when the school’s imam was contacted for counseling after teachers saw his daughter’s odd behaviors and reported them to the principal.
The 13-year-old girl revealed that her father had been defiling her for three years at one of their meetings with the Imam.
According to a school source who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the situation, “The girl just started acting out in school, and no teacher knew what to do.” The school principal was informed of the situation, and he or she decided that she should seek counseling from the school’s imam. The girl told the imam that she has been having sex with her father since she was 10 years old during the counseling session.
She added that the father had slept with her the final time on October 2, 2023. She claimed that her father continued to encourage her to date.
According to reports, the girl was transferred to a hospital for assessment and treatment after the principal of the school filed a report about the incident at a local police station, which resulted in the man’s arrest.
The incident was confirmed by Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police public relations officer, when he was contacted.
“The girl has been taken for a medical evaluation, and the suspect is in prison. Investigations continue, he added.
