Drug dealer in Kano sentenced to 10 years imprisonment

Muhammad Sambo, a prominent drug trafficker, was given a 10-year prison term by a Federal High Court in Kano presided over by Justice S.A. Amobeda.

Sambo was one of seven drug dealers detained by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s Kano State Command in October.

According to a statement provided to media on Monday by the command’s public relations officer, Sadiq Maigatari, Sambo was found guilty and given a 10-year prison sentence.

According to Maigatari, Abubakar Ahmad, the state commander, led the conviction.

He added that the successful prosecution sends a loud and clear message to all those engaged in the illegal trade and transportation of cannabis and other illicit substances that Kano is not a base for them. He said the NDLEA commander has been steadfast in his efforts to rid the state of illicit drug activities.
The statement said, “Sambo was apprehended on November 11, 2020, as part of his operation to smuggle significant amounts of cannabis sativa from Ondo and other Southern states to the Nort.

The Honda Accord was halted by NDLEA operatives on patrol along the Kano-Zaria Road after they had suspicions about it. The man was apprehended in the Hotoro region of Kano State following a chase.

“Following further inquiries, 201kg of dried leaves believed to be cannabis sativa were found in Sambo’s car. Later evidence established the suspect’s true identity and locus of residence in Lokogoma, Abuja.

“Laboratory examinations on the drug revealed that it was cannabis sativa, supporting Sambo’s guilt. The defendant was found guilty of breaking the NDLEA Act by trafficking cannabis sativa.
