A private school teacher named John and five other people were paraded by the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Monday for allegedly tampering with electricity meters in an effort to utilize energy without paying.
Jaye Abayomi, Abidemi Enoch, Jackson Imukodro, Adeleke Fatimah, and Azeez Mutiu were among the other suspects presented.
The Commandant, Mr. Sunday Agboola, introduced the suspects to the media at the NSCDC state command headquarters and stated that they had been detained in the Osogbo metropolis’s Awosuru, Alekuwodo, Jaleyemi, Ogo Oluwa, and Omigade neighborhoods.
The head of the NSCDC noted that on October 13, 2023, his men and representatives of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company together conducted an operation and apprehended the accused.
Agboola bemoaned the fact that many people in the state still steal energy, despite a number of arrests being made to discourage the public from doing so.
The command is shocked, he declared. Some people have blatantly refused to stop engaging in this criminal crime despite several arrests being made to discourage the public from doing so.
“Until we see positive change in our state, NSCDC won’t let up. These suspects will be brought before the court following the conclusion of the inquiry.
John acknowledged using a meter bypass when he spoke with reporters, explaining that “our terminal got spoiled and we have an agent who usually loads our meter directly for us but the person wasn’t available on Friday to load it for us; that was why I decided to bypass it.”
