Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has called for a united effort from leaders in both the public and private sectors to combat poverty and alleviate hardship in the country. This appeal was made in Kaduna on Tuesday, in observance of the United Nations Day for the Eradication of Poverty, with the theme, “Decent Work and Social Protection: Putting dignity in practice for all.”
Governor Sani emphasized the need for an urgent review of social and economic policies to better address the needs of the most vulnerable, particularly those in rural areas. He pointed to the ongoing Qatar Sanabil Project, focusing on constructing the Kaduna Economic and Mass Housing for the Less Privileged at Millennium City in the state’s capital as a model partnership between his administration and external organizations.
The Governor explained that this project, once completed, will transform the Economic City into a hub for world-class infrastructure, providing modern and affordable housing, enhanced security, and a conducive environment for business activities. His statement, as issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Muhammad Lawal Shehu, highlighted the importance of the public and private sectors working together to develop sustainable solutions to eradicate poverty and hunger.
Governor Sani outlined other empowerment initiatives that would benefit the poor, underserved, and vulnerable in Kaduna State, including scholarships, distribution of equipment, and borehole drilling. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by these groups, particularly in the context of economic policy changes, such as the removal of fuel subsidies and rising inflation.
Since assuming office in May 2023, the Governor has implemented several intervention programs aimed at eradicating poverty among the vulnerable in the state. These include a Palliative Committee, grain and fertilizer distribution, transportation subsidies, support for small businesses, reduced tuition fees, and executive orders promoting financial inclusion.
Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to improving the lives of the less privileged in Kaduna State underscores the importance of addressing poverty and inequality through comprehensive, collaborative efforts.
