Lekan Sunday, a 40-year-old mason, was detained after being accused of raping a prophetess at an Ogun State church.
The media discovered that although he is said to have committed the crime last Thursday, men from the state command were able to capture him on Monday.
According to reports, the suspect entered the Orioke Aanu Oluwa Gbohunmi church in Abeokuta’s Ilogbo Adu neighborhood with firearms and found the victim asleep inside.
He allegedly threatened to kill the prophetess if she didn’t stop challenging him while holding her prisoner and waving a knife in her face.
The prophetess is claimed to have begun pleading with the perpetrator to feel pity for her as her pleas for assistance from nearby individuals went unanswered.
The defendant allegedly continued to have intercourse with the prophetess despite her several requests to stop.
The victim allegedly approached a neighboring police station and reported the incident after ultimately subduing the prophetess and raping her, according to the victim.
The police began looking for the culprit after receiving the complaint and learning that he had escaped.
Later, on Monday, he was captured.
The prophetess recognized the culprit as a mason and laborer in the neighborhood, according to state police public relations officer Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the occurrence to our correspondent during a press conference on Tuesday.
“The incident occurred on Thursday last week. The suspect was taken into custody on Monday. The preliminary inquiry into the incident is ongoing, according to a WhatsApp message from Odutola.
