Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu over the continued detention of Abdulrasheed Bawa, the immediate past Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), without trial.

Abdulrasheed Bawa, the first EFCC boss who did not come from the ranks of the Nigerian police, was taken into custody by the Department of State Services (DSS) on June 14 after the president suspended him. Similarly, Godwin Emefiele was arrested at his Lagos home on June 9.
Their prolonged detention has led to questions and protests by human rights groups and activists, urging the DSS to charge them in court.

Babachir Lawal emphasized the right of the people to demand a Nigeria that guarantees freedom of speech and human rights for all. He criticized the arrest and detention of both the EFCC Chairman and the CBN governor without trial, as well as the use of political parties to intimidate and harass citizens expressing their opinions in the public domain.
Stay tuned for further developments on this matter.
