NDLEA stops cocaine covered in body cream, headed for Saudi Arabia

On Sunday, October 15, agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s Directorate of Operations and General Investigations attached to courier firms intercepted a shipment of 1 kg of methamphetamine hidden in body cream containers bound for New Zealand as well as another shipment containing 2.5 kg of cocaine and phenacetin concealed in the carton walls and destined for Saudi Arabia.

This was revealed in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi.

Babafemi noted that on Wednesday, October 18, two more seizures—112 grams of dimethyl sulfone and 583 grams of cocaine and phenacetin—were made at a different courier service in Lagos.

“The shipment of Cocaine and phenacetin was packed into a bottle of body cream going to Saudi Arabia, while the Dimethyl Sulfone was concealed in the hollow of a motor driving shaft going to New Zealand,” he claimed.
The NDLEA spokesman further stated that after anti-narcotics agents learned that Sherif Egbo, 40, had used illegal substances, they detained him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja as he attempted to board an Air France trip to Paris, France.

He claimed that a body scanner discovered wraps of illegal narcotics in the stomach of the Egbo, who is stationed in Madrid, Spain, and was apprehended on Saturday, October 14.

He was then kept under close monitoring in the facility’s exhibit recovery room, where he passed 93 heroin pellets weighing 2.222 kg.The suspect claimed to be involved in both drug trafficking and working at a farm where chickens are raised in Madrid, Spain, according to his statement, Babafemi said.

He said, “On Monday, October 16, NDLEA agents intercepted a consignment of 10 cartons containing 500,000 pills of tramadol 225mg labeled as tapentadol at the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc’s imports shed at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja Lagos.

The shipment, which had the airway bill number MAWB 319-01227236, was made from India via Qatar Airways and was intended for Monrovia, Liberia.

The NDLEA and its Liberian counterpart’s collaboration and intelligence-sharing methods, however, allowed the lid to be blown off.

Additionally, Ngene Chinecherem attempted to export 600 grams of tramadol and 11,100 kilograms of skunk through the Lagos airport while traveling on Qatar Airways to Muscat, Oman. NDLEA officials apprehended him and seized the illegal goods.
