ZAMFARA STATE, November 3, 2023 – The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) has provided crucial relief materials to victims of banditry in Zamfara State. This humanitarian assistance comes as a significant relief to those who have been affected by the persistent insecurity in the region.
Governor Dauda Lawal, represented by his spokesperson Sulaiman Bala Idris, received the relief items during his visit to the NCFRMI headquarters. The governor’s visit aimed to explore additional ways to support those affected by the ongoing banditry crisis in Zamfara State.
During the visit, Governor Lawal appealed to the NCFRMI to prioritize Zamfara State, given the prevailing insecurity and the urgent need for humanitarian assistance. He specifically requested that the Honourable Commissioner consider extending the refugee resettlement cities constructed in Gusau to other zones within the state.
Acknowledging the challenges posed by limited resources, the governor emphasized the importance of partnership and collaboration to alleviate the suffering of over 2,000 refugees in Zamfara.
In response, the Federal Commissioner of the NCFRMI, Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed, commended Governor Lawal for being the first executive to visit the commission since he assumed office, lauding his commitment to the well-being of the people of Zamfara.
Commissioner Ahmed stated, “I sincerely thank you. This shows your high level of commitment. It is an honor that you have taken the time to visit us, which demonstrates your commitment to the well-being of your people. We have heard your request for additional support. As a result, the Commission will ensure that you do not leave empty-handed.”
The relief materials provided included bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, semovita, farming tools, computers, industrial sewing machines, cobbling machines, exercise books, whiteboards, and other essential items. These contributions will undoubtedly make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by the banditry crisis in Zamfara State, offering much-needed support and relief during challenging times.
