ABEOKUTA, Nigeria – The family of the late Iyalode of Yorubaland, Alaba Lawson, has released the funeral arrangements for the esteemed educationist and entrepreneur, who passed away on October 28, 2023, at the age of 72.
In a statement signed by the media aide of the deceased, Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji, it was revealed that the funeral proceedings have been scheduled as follows:
- Service of Songs: Date: December 7 Venue: Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta
- Funeral Service: Date: December 8 Venue: St. James African Church, Idi-Ape, Abeokuta, Ogun State
A committee has been established to oversee and fine-tune the funeral program. The Central Planning Committee, led by Sanya Abiola, includes members such as Tayo Akintayo, Sesan Bankole, and Akin Jiboku.
The family meeting, chaired by music legend Ebenezer Obe-Fabiyi, is also part of the central planning, with other members, including Akinola Lawson, Babalola Lawson, Oreoluwa Obey-Fabiyi, and Taiwo Jiboku.
The burial arrangements will span from December 1 to 6 and will feature various activities designated for different groups, associations, and professional bodies to commemorate the life of the deceased.
The Service of Songs will take place on December 7 at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, while the funeral service will be held on December 8 at St. James African Church, Idi-Ape, Abeokuta, Ogun State. The interment will be strictly for the family members of the late Alaba Lawson.
