Abiola Tijani, a 30-year-old Nigerian, has been arrested and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by the Sheffield Crown Court in the UK for raping a woman. The court, on Thursday, November 9, sentenced Tijani to 12 years and three months, with 8 years and 3 months to be served in prison and the remaining 4 years on licence.
The incident occurred on Saturday, July 29, when Tijani followed the victim, who was heading home in the early hours, and attempted to strike up a conversation. The court heard that Tijani pushed the victim against railings and proceeded to rape her.
In addition to the prison term, Tijani was issued a lifelong restraining order, preventing him from communicating with the victim. The Judge remarked, “No sentence I pass will undo the harm you caused or be considered adequate. What you did is every woman’s worst nightmare.”
Tijani had entered a guilty plea on September 8, leading to his detention and subsequent sentencing. The case highlights the severity of the crime and the legal consequences for such actions.
