A man going by the name of Alabo has been taken into custody by members of the Rivers State Police Command. The incident happened on May 15, 2022, at Ekwulobia Street in Mile 3, Diobu, Port Harcourt. The landlord went crazy after Comfort Nwagadi rejected his advances for a woman’s hand in marriage, cutting her multiple times with a machete. The landlord also attacked and macheted the woman’s husband, who attempted to save her, cutting him multiple times as well. The landlord had fled the scene of the attacks but was apprehended by the police on Sunday after they had been pursuing him for several months.
Nwagadi informed reporters via voice message on Monday that the suspect had been arrested.
He also attacked my husband that day when he attempted to step in. Alabo also gave him a machete cut before fleeing that evening. He hasn’t been seen since then.
But the Azikiwe Police Station called yesterday to say they had taken him into custody. “Justice is all I want now that he’s been arrested,” she said.
According to reports received, the then-Commissioner of Police ordered the case file to be moved from the Azikiwe Police Division to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department Unit of the command.
Upon being contacted, Grace Iringe-Koko, the state police command spokesperson, promised to inquire with the Azikiwe Police Station and respond to reporters. However, as of Monday, when this report was filed, she had not done so.
