On Monday morning, Mrs. Amina Audu, the suspended chairman of the Okpokwu Local Government Area in Benue State, and her chauffeur were taken hostage by gunmen suspected of being herdsmen.
According to an eyewitness, Audu was attacked by gunmen near Tyolaha Ahume along Naka/Makurdi Road while he was traveling through the area.
The armed guys fired at the moving automobile, causing it to stop, and the shooters quickly took off, according to a local who did not want his identity to be published.
“This morning, gunmen attacked a moving car along Naka/Makurdi Road near Tyolaha Ahume hamlet and fired shots at it until it came to a stop.
The local reported, “Immediately, the gunmen swooped on a woman and the driver and ran into the bush.” Our correspondent followed up with one of her colleagues, the suspended chairman of Ado Local Government, James Oche, who confirmed the woman’s kidnapping, saying, “It is true. I learned she was kidnapped alongside her driver, and they (kidnappers) have yet to make contact with anyone.” Attempts to reach SP Catherine Anene, the state police command spokesperson, were unsuccessful because she did not answer calls or texts, and she did not respond to texts as of the time of filing this report. The Security Adviser to the State Governor, Joseph Har, was contacted.
