Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has instructed civil servants serving as Local Government Secretaries to resign from their positions, emphasizing that the appointments are political. The governor issued this directive during a meeting with Local Government Sole Administrators and Secretaries in the state on Monday.
Governor Aliyu clarified the status of local government secretaries, categorizing them as political officeholders. He stated, “It is now clear that you are occupying political offices; therefore, if you are a civil servant, make sure you resign. We believe in the rule of law and will not accept any situation whereby people will flout the law.”
In addition to the resignation directive, Governor Aliyu charged Local Government Sole Administrators to hold regular security meetings with relevant stakeholders to address banditry and other crimes in the state. He emphasized the collective responsibility of securing communities, urging effective collaboration among all stakeholders.
The governor stressed the importance of inclusive decision-making on security matters and urged vigilance in identifying and reporting suspicious activities to the authorities. Governor Aliyu reassured the public of his administration’s commitment to combating banditry and other criminal activities in Sokoto State, expressing gratitude for the support received from the people.
